History:
As a child, Idai had one true best friend: her father. Her father was single after her mother passed during child birth, and he worked hard to provide the best living for her that he could. The two were always close, and Idai had no secrets.
In school, Idai was always the odd one out. She was never alienated, but she preferred her own company to others. That meant not playing with others or going to sleepovers or eating her lunch at a table. She instead preferred to read or sit in the shade, keep quiet, and observe. So she didn’t have any friends her own age, but she was happy with it like that. Her father, though initially concerned, accepted her for who she was and gave her space when she needed it.
When Idai was finished with school, her father began to grow very sick. No healers were able to figure out what the issue was; he was weak and frail, and had trouble breathing. It was a peculiar disease, and not one that could be cured. Idai had some options, she figured, and she chose what she thought was best. She requested a meeting with the elder for their town, and asked for a spot of land to be granted to her. She wanted to move her father far away from the chaos of town life, further into the mountains where the air was clear and the water was cold and crisp.
Her request was granted, and Idai packed up everything she could, sold her childhood home, and got to work. Their home began as a tent until Idai learned to work with the straw bales that she had brought along, in which case it became like a shed. When Idai learned to use her axe, their home was a cozy log cabin. She built huge planters to grow crops, she made low shelters for the wildlife, she dug irrigation ditches, she began to raise livestock.
What was hard at first became easy for her eventually, and she enjoyed the calm life where she didn’t have to speak to anyone or worry about someone knocking on her door. Idai was at peace, and enjoyed the place. She gave her father the best food and company she was capable of giving in his final years, and when he finally passed, it was with a smile on his face.
Idai decided to stay at her ranch, continuing her work. She was completely self efficient, having gone to town a few times for a few luxuries- such as the tools and instructions to build a windmill for power. Everything she needed, she learned to do by herself, choosing to rely on no one else. Not because of malice or shyness or sadness, but simply because it was the way she preferred.
