History:

Oksha had a large family. Her parents, while faithful to each other, were very absent. And very heavy users. All the drugs and drinks under the sun, they’d tried them.

Oksha is the oldest of thirteen children born to their parents. Every single pregnancy was the same; an accidental pregnancy, her parents swearing they’d get their lives together for the new child, a few clean months, and then a heavy relapse. It became the yearly event in their household.

So Oksha spent her childhood and teen years taking care of her numerous younger siblings. Which she didn’t mind at all; she loved all her siblings, every single one. Every new baby, every new set of first steps, every new “Oksha” as a first word, she loved it.

When Oksha was seventeen, her parents finally met their demise to organ failures and overdose. It wasn’t a pretty thing…and Oksha was the one to find the bodies and bury them. By then her siblings didn’t even call them “mom” and “dad” anymore, so it wasn’t a huge loss.

Luckily, they had an aunt and uncle close by. They were willing to care for the children, but thirteen…it was a lot of mouths to feed. So Oksha and the next four oldest siblings, being old enough for hard labor, were sent away to help. And being so close, they were willing to earn money for the rest of the siblings.

Two of them went to a nearby ranch, and two of them went to a fish farm in the next town over. Oksha, unfortunately, was the oldest- and was sent the furthest away.

Through letters she knew that her siblings were doing just fine. It was only her that seemed to be in trouble…but she’d never admit that to them. She didn’t want them to worry.

She was sent to a farm to work the fields, and the owner was cruel. He’d force her to work long hours, even extra ones that she wasn’t paid for. He’d withhold food or take blankets away for himself on cold nights, even hurt her with a riding crop if she wasn’t working fast enough. He was a cruel old man.

Luckily for her…a kind stranger saw the abuse from afar one day. A humongous masked man came over, grabbed the farmer’s arm, and dragged him away- breaking the arm in the process. Oksha followed after him in desperation.

The man never took his mask off or spoke really, but he was kind. He took care of her for a while, helped her find the resources she needed…and supported her when she decided to build her OWN farm.

Oksha began to take in animals who were hurt or disabled, or just homeless. This included dogs, cats, even a trio of giant sloths. She would help them and all others who came across her with her natural remedies, tending to anyone who needed help.
