Arya has always had it a bit rough. Her mother had two children, Arya and her little brother Ryan. Their mother died during child birth, and their father was quick to abandon the family in his grief. So, Arya only had her brother. Ryan was twelve years younger than her, so she ended up caring for him. At the ripe age of twelve years old, Arya had a newborn to take care of.

Life was incredibly hard for her, but she made it work; she squatted in any abandoned houses and stores she could until other people came along, and then she would move on in secret before they could be found. She learned how to defend herself with anything possible; from broken bottles to fully automatic rifles. When she was skilled enough, she began to take on whatever jobs she could to earn money to support herself and Ryan on. This worked out for plenty of time as Arya grew older and more capable. It seemed like the past hardships, the worst of it, was behind her.

But when Ryan was nine years old, Arya’s worst possible unimagined nightmare came to life. Ryan began to lose a ton of weight, fast. No matter what she fed him, he was getting close to skin and bones. Finally, she was able to take him to see a doctor, and…it turned out he was a type one diabetic. In the middle of a wasteland.

Arya’s life got a hundred times harder. All her saved money, her treasures, her most prized possessions were all traded and sold within a few months to keep Ryan alive with insulin. After that she had to scrape whatever she could together. Eventually she was forced to turn to more drastic means.

First she tried stealing, but she couldn’t get away with it every time. And if she ever got caught, she was in a world of pain and abuse – several close calls to death, even. So she turned to selling her body for the medication, or the money to afford it. When she couldn’t keep up with it, she began taking jobs that weren’t exactly morally straight. She joined raider and bandit groups, took part in trafficking, acted as a mule, kidnapped, stole, anything she had to to keep Ryan alive. Her little brother was all she had in the world.

One day, when Ryan was thirteen…the worst thing that had ever happened to Arya happened. She’d just made the biggest score ever by working for a man with a farm of pigs that could supply her with the insulin she needed for Ryan. She went home…and found that Ryan had killed himself.

Ryan, overcome with the guilt over what Arya had been doing to herself and to others to keep him alive, ended his life. He left her a note that said he loved her, and this was the only thing he could do to set her free. That it would hurt, but not as much as what she was doing to herself. And that he wanted her only to right as many wrongs as she could.

Arya was broken. For a few weeks all she could do was stare into the distance and only feed herself when she could barely move. But finally…she decided to honor his last wish. Right as many wrongs as she could.
